Our World With war lurking in the shadows... Columbia Shuttle
Posted by: dollareyez on Sunday, February 02, 2003 - 08:47 PM(7238 Reads)
As I sit every night watching the news, yesterdays report can hardly be described as "common" journalistic information. War has dominated the television sets as troops are called up everyday for deployment to the Middle East. For months, the possibility of us going to war has been instilled into our minds. We hear of other countries in conflicts while their militants are fighting to keep their beliefs solid and intact. But it seems that we have become numb to the talks of war.
Today is totally different. It is not the news of war, frigid cold weather in the north, abolishment of death penalties or Ted Turner dropping AOL, it is the heart-wrenching sadness of 7 brave explorers giving their lives to probe the universe for humanity.

They do not know our names, where we live, if we are married or have children. It didn't matter to them. The astronauts aboard Columbia dedicated their lives to learning, teaching and working for better tomorrows. But those astronauts, who valiantly frontiered space for us, will not see their accomplishments in anymore tomorrows. They will not see their children grow up nor will their families see them again but only in dreams.

Just as a soldier goes off to war knowing the possibility of death, the honor of serving our country as an astronaut is also so great that death is thought of only a factor not as a whole.
For that sacrifice, we should give all respect to those HEROES who perished yesterday in the Columbia. The Columbia crew did not die in vain for the exploration of space will continue with honor and remembrance of them and those who have gone before them in Apollo 13 and Challenger.
