Hurricane Ike

Hurricane Ike has left the area!!! Well, Hurricane Ike has finally passed through Houston! Shawn and the girls roughed it out at home in Katy. They lost power last night at around 7 and are still without electricity. Remarkably, Elizabeth slept through the ENTIRE storm! There were some high winds in Katy, reportedly up to 95 miles per hour. The neighbor lost a bit of his garage roof and some shingles off his house. Shawn says the rest of the subdivision appears relatively untouched with the exception of some broken branches.
I was at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, where we endured wind gusts of well over 100 miles per hour. Though we did not lose electricity or our water supply (as many hospitals in the Texas Medical Center did), we have quite a few shattered windows and a great deal of roof and building damage. We are currently running a day care for staff and families to have some limited relief and rest. It seems the children have unyielding energy during a storm.
I have not yet heard from Jackie and Marc post-storm, but hope to check in with them tomorrow. Marc had planned to ride the storm out at the shop, while Jackie and the kids spent the time with family in Katy.
I have other family in the Baytown area, for which I am quite concerned. I hope to get in touch with them tomorrow, as well.
The surrounding areas are dealing with some flooding, downed power lines, and debris. The Galveston area was reportedly hit the hardest, with a great deal of buildings lost.
I have a friend from work who will likely be bringing her family to live with us until they can get back home. Pictures on the news showed her subdivision with water up to the rooftops. It is a devastating loss.
I hope to go home tomorrow once the relief staff arrive. Until then, I am 'camped' on the office floor.
Please continue to keep us and the entire Houston area in your prayers. There is still so much recovery that must be done. Please also pray for the staff members at Memorial Hermann and Children's Memorial Hermann. They are truly dedicated and have been working long hours to meet the needs of the patients and families.

We are really happy to hear that everyone is OK in Texas. It sounds like Ike also hit southern Illinois with high winds and rain. We hope everyone there escaped damage.
